What is the difference between Half Time-Full Time & Win Both Halves Markets?

An easy to mistake to make

The Half Time / Full Time and Win Both Halves markets are very different and it is an easy mistake to make. The wording of the markets can lead you to think they are the same thing!

A lot of people have wrongly backed and layed the two different markets, which can result in both bets losing!

Win Both Halves

For your bet to win you need your team to win both halves. We will use Man Utd in the example below.

We have backed and layed Man Utd to win both halves.

The back bet would win if Man Utd:

  • Win in the first half (e.g. 1-0) AND win in the second half (e.g 2-0)

The lay bet would win if Man Utd:

  • Failed to win either half

  • Win only one half

Essentially with the Win Both Halves, you need to split the game in two and treat each half as a separate match. The first result is at the end of the first half and the second result is at the end of the second half.

Half Time Full Time Markets

As you can see in the below screenshot there are a lot more variations to this market.

For the purpose of comparing with the Win Both Halves market we will be backing and laying Man Utd to be winning at half time and full time.

Man Utd needs to be winning at Half Time and HOLD on to win the game in order for your back bet to win. If they fail to win the game after leading at half-time, or are drawing/losing at half time then your back bet will lose!

An example of the back bet winning:

  • Man Utd are winning 3-0 at half time. Currently our back bet is still alive as they are leading at half time.

  • Granada score 2 goals in the second half and the game finishes 3-2. Your back bet in this situation wins.

This is because Man Utd were winning at half time and held onto the lead at the end of the game.

In comparison to the Win Both Halves Market, it does not matter if Man Utd lose the second half so long as they are leading at half time and go onto win the game.

The lay bet would win if Man Utd:

  • Granada score 3 or more goals and it ends in a draw or a loss.

Man Utd failed to hold onto the lead so the lay bet would win.
